Bioidentical Creme

Bioidentical cream can be an answer to the fact that menopause marks the end of menstruation. In turn, this means the production of hormones by the ovaries gradually decreases and eventually stops.

This is frequently called the perimenopausal period. For most women, this is a gradual process rather than a sudden event. In any event, at menopause, hormone levels don't always decline uniformly. They alternately rise and fall again.

Changing ovarian hormone levels affect the body’s glands, which together make up the endocrine system. Ovarian hormones also affect all other tissues, including the breasts, vagina, bones, blood vessels, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and skin.

Hormone Replacement Therapy

Many women have found hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to be an excellent way to eliminate - or at least reduce - the symptoms of menopause. Conventional hormone replacement therapy (CHRT) means taking synthetic versions of progesterone and estrogen. And while these synthetic hormones can eliminate the symptoms of menopause, they do nothing to replace the lost hormones and get your endocrine system back in balance.

A new, more natural solution

A new solution called Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) was recently featured on the Oprah Winfrey TV program. It has also been documented in books by the actress Suzanne Somers.

The difference between CHRT and BHRT is that the bioidenticals are made to be molecularly identical to a woman’s own hormones, unlike the synthetics which are made from the urine of pregnant mares. Also, bioidenticals are normally made from natural ingredients such as glycyrrhetic acid (from licorice root), angelica, and wild organic Himalayan yams.

Bioidentical creme

While synthetic hormones such as estrogen must be taken orally, bioidenticals can be applied as a cream. A number of experts believe a cream is better than oral bioidenticals because natural progesterone taken orally is mostly destroyed in the digestion process. Adequate absorption is only accomplished through topical application in a dermal delivery system.

There are several such creams available such as Natural Radiance (Bio-Identical) Paraben-Free Creme Plus Herbs, which contains USP Progesterone from Wild Yam. It is said to be identical to that which is produced by the human body. In addition to micronized natural progesterone, this cream also contains an herbal complex for adrenal gland support. A second bioidentical cream is Estrogen/Estriol (Bio-Identical) Paraben Free & Fragrance Free Cream. The natural estrogen found in this product, estriol USP, is made the same way natural progesterone USP is made. This cream is said to be made by combing bacteria with certain varieties of plants and that the resulting hormone is bio identical in chemical structure to the hormone produced by the human body.

Is bioidentical creme for you?

Many women have found that a bioidentical product such as bioidentical cream will eliminate their menopausal symptoms and help them feel younger and better. However, there are no scientific studies supporting all the claims made in behalf of bioidenticals so this form of hormone replacement therapy may or may not work for you. As always, be sure to discuss this with your healthcare provider, as she or he will be able to help you make the best possible choice in HRT.
